New Melones
The Kokanee bite is definitely on. We are seeing mid summer 15 to 16 inch
fish in good numbers her in early April. The Koks are hitting pink hoochies
and Uncle Larry's spinners behind Vance's dodgers. Vance's slim willies on
our weights help to attract more fish. Shoepeg corn soaked in Pro Cure Carp
spit and fresh water shrimp help to entice the fish to strike. We found a
nice school of Kokanee on the west bank between Black Bark Cove and the
spillway 20 to 30 feet deep. The mouth of Angels Creek also produced fish
as well as Glory Hole Point.
Lake Don Pedro
King Salmon fishing was very good this week. Most of our fish are averaging
1.5 to 2.5 pounds. However, Darryl Dennis of Patterson early in the week
landed a nice 3.5 pound King. Bill Passalaqua of Modesto managed to bring
in a hefty 3 pound King, later followed up with another beautiful salmon
that tipped the scales at 6.1 pounds. And later in the week Dan Baucher of
Sacramento boated a monster 8.8 pound King salmon. We were fishing in
Fleming Bay 70 to 90 feet deep. Vance's shad pattern Thin Fin and Ex-Cel
chartreuse and red has been working well. Rolling shad injected with Pro
Cure oil has produced our larger fish. As the water warms up the Kings are
becoming more active, feeding on shad and small Kokanee.
